More likely than not, individual consciousness both predates and survives embodied existence in some form of energy and substance. If that is true, spiritual enlightenment, which is waking up to a consciousness that remains constant in sleep and in the waking state is just an extension of that cosmic consciousness that survives death and reincarnates from epoch to epoch.
