Back to Natural Laws

The great law at work in human history is freedom. People want to be free and will sacrifice mightily to achieve freedom. Freedom moreover admits of grades and can be refined. In conversation, freedom is achieved in several well-defined ways (e.g. universalized maxims, true judgments, aesthetic deployments of brain and body). Another form of freedom is absorption-in-unity (as in sleep) and conversation can deliver this also. The phenomenon is formally identical to the promise and comfort of the Christian religion. By entering into a Covenant with God and Community with the Saved, one is guaranteed eternal life and bliss (freedom) in the Company of the Good. Thus one becomes free in virtue of what it means to be unified with others of a like mind.
